Share of people dining out Australia 2023, by diner type
In a survey conducted in March 2023 among Australian consumers regarding their dining out habits, around 33 percent of those surveyed identified themselves as special occasion diners, tending to largely only eat out on special occasions and spending time researching venues and menus to find the perfect spot. The next most prevalent diner types that respondents identified as were the spontaneous diner and the loyal diner. Spontaneous diners refer to people who dine out frequently but rarely book in advance, often rather seeing where their senses guide them that day. Loyal diners tend to have their go-to venues and rarely try out new spots.
