EU: pesticide sold by active substance category

From 2011 to 2020, pesticide sales in the European Union maintained a relatively steady level of approximately 350 thousand metric tons per year. In 2020, the majority of these sales, amounting to more than 293.18 thousand metric tons, consisted of approved active substances. These substances are chemicals that have received authorization for usage within the European Union. The next most significant category in terms of sales volume in 2020 was comprised of active substances that are potential candidates for substitution. These substances are currently under consideration for replacement by safer alternatives due to their potential risks to human health and the environment.
