Medal count by country in the Women's Javelin Throw at the Summer Olympics 1932-2020
The Women's Javelin Throw was first introduced as a Summer Olympic event in 1932, and has featured regularly since then. In this time, German athletes have seen the most success, with East Germany leading the gold medal count with three in total, while Germany has eleven overall medals. When combined, Germany, East Germany and West Germany have five gold medals and 18 total medals. The most successful athlete in this event is the Czech thrower Barbora Špotáková, who won two golds and one bronze medal between 2008 and 2016. The only athlete to have been stripped of a medal in this event was Russian thrower Mariya Abakumova, whose 2008 samples failed a retest in 2016; the 2008 medals were then redistributed accordingly.
