Medal count by country in the Men's 400m Hurdles at the Summer Olympics 1900-2020
The Men's 400 meter Hurdles has been included at all Olympic Games, excluding the tournaments of 1896 and 1912. In this time, athletes from the United States have dominated the medals table, winning 18 golds and 41 total medals, which is over almost three quarters of all golds and over half of all medals ever won in this event. The U.S.' Edwin Moses is the most successful athlete in this event, with two golds and one bronze medal won between 1976 and 1988, and he may have won another medal had the U.S. not boycotted the Moscow Games of 1980. In addition to the 1980 Games, there were only two occasions where a U.S. athlete did not appear on the podium, and they have swept the podium five times. No athlete has ever been stripped of a medal won in this event.
