Air pollutant emission change in the EU-27 1990-2021, by pollutant
Emissions of key air pollutants in the European Union (EU-27) have fallen considerably over the past three decades, owing to factors like stricter emissions regulations. Sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions fell by more than 90 percent between 1990 and 2021, while nitrogen oxides (NOx) dropped by roughly 63 percent. Both these pollutants are harmful to the environment and human health.
