Premature deaths attributable to PM2.5 exposure in Europe 2021, by cause
There were an estimated 293,000 deaths attributable to exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in Europe in 2021. The leading cause of death attributable to PM2.5 exposure was ischemic heart disease, followed by stroke, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
