U.S. number of people with green cards FY 1820-2022
In the fiscal year of 2022, about 1.02 million immigrants received legal permanent resident status in the United States. This is a significant increase from the previous year, when about 740,000 people received legal permanent resident status. 1991 was the year with the highest number of residency permits granted in United States history - this was largely due to the signing of the Immigration Act of 1990, which greatly eased restrictions for legal migration and naturalization.
