Share of energy production in Africa 2021, by source
In 2021, gas was the leading source of Africa's energy production, accounting for almost 40 percent of the power generation. Coal followed with a share of around 19 percent. In addition, hydropower contributed to 17 percent of the total energy mix. Other energy sources, such as oil, solar, wind, and nuclear sources accounted for lower shares of the continent's generation mix in that year.
