The majority of Japanese consumers were unwilling to purchase a substitute product to the food items they purchase, according to a survey conducted from September to November 2020 in Japan. While 35 percent of respondents would purchase a comparable product of another brand, the largest share was more likely to stay loyal to the brands they are used to by checking in on another day or purchasing necessities at another store.
