Smoking rates in Brazil 2008-2023, by gender
When asked whether they were current smokers, approximately 11.7 percent of male Brazilian respondents answered affirmatively in 2023, similar to the share of current smokers reported two years earlier. This figure was higher than the share of Brazilian female respondents who answered affirmatively to the same question, which reached more than seven percent that same year. Overall, the percentage of adults in Brazil who were smokers has been declining for both genders since 2008.
