Number of international tourist arrivals in North Africa 2010-2020, by country
In 2020, Morocco recorded around 2.8 million international tourist arrivals, the highest number among the North African countries under study. Since it overtook Egypt in 2013, the country has been the main touristic destination in the region. In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the tourism industry, international tourist arrivals amounted to approximately 13.1 million, followed by Egypt with 13 million.
