According to a November 2021 study conducted in the United States, half of all respondents stated that social media companies that develop false-information finding algorithms should play a major role in setting standards on how their programs should be used. Furthermore, 46 percent of respondents felt that social media users should play a main part in the setting of such standards. As for federal government agencies, 19 percent of those asked said that these organizations should play no role at all in setting guidelines for how social media firms use computer programs to find misinformation.
