Greenhouse gas emissions from passenger cars in the U.S. 1990-2022
Passenger cars in the United States produced the equivalent of 370 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2022. This represented an increase of 1.3 percent in comparison to 2021, and 43 percent when compared to 1990 levels. In 2022, passenger cars accounted for some 20 percent of U.S. transportation sector emissions.
