World: sales value of discount retailers in 2019, pre- and post-COVID-19 2020
According to recent data, value of sales of the world's ten largest discount retailers grew in 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Compared to 2019, Schwarz Group, which owns discount stores Lidl, increased their sales in pre-COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 2020 by five billion U.S. dollars and nine billion U.S. dollars, respectively. The group's sales reached to 103 billion U.S. dollars in post-COVID-19 2020. Aldi had a similar trend in the same period and had a sales value of 99 billion U.S. dollars in post-COVID-19 2020, an increase of about seven billion U.S. dollars compared to 2019.
