How do Mexicans buy online?
As in most parts of the world, the coronavirus pandemic changed Mexicans' consumption habits almost overnight, propelling the use of digital channels. By the end of 2022, the market comprised 64 million e-commerce users. Even after most COVID-19-related restrictions had been lifted, consumers still primarily focused their online shopping on personal and household goods. Their preferred payment method when checking out? For over a third of Mexicans, credit cards were the way to go, while another quarter favored e-wallets.For the first time, users made more of these purchases via mobile than desktop. The uptake of m-commerce is largely due to the strong consumption by younger generations. According to a 2022 survey, at least seven out of ten Gen Z and millennials preferred using mobile devices, namely smartphones and tablets, when shopping online. Forecasts suggest that mobile commerce will continue to gain relevance in the coming years, increasing by almost 116 by 2025.
