E-commerce in Latvia - statistics & facts

Even though the Latvian e-commerce market is the smallest in the Baltics, it is expanding at a steady pace. In 2023, the revenue from online sales in the country is estimated to grow by over 13 percent from the previous year. The major e-commerce platform in the country is 220.lv. It belongs to the Lithuanian company Pigu and offers goods in various categories, such as electronics, personal care, and apparel. In July 2023, 220.lv recorded 2.5 million visits, one of the highest traffic figures among online marketplaces in the Baltics. Furthermore, 220.lv is one of the leading e-commerce websites in Latvia by video and display advertising reach.

Demographics of Latvian online shoppers

The number of e-commerce users in Latvia exceeded one million as of 2023 and was forecast to increase gradually in the years until 2027. A significant growth rate in the number of e-shoppers was recorded in 2019, at around 15 percent. The online shopping penetration rate was slightly higher among women. In total, nearly 69 percent of Latvian residents purchased goods and services over the internet in 2022. In terms of age, the most active group of e-shoppers was 25 to 34 years old.

E-commerce delivery preferences in Latvia

Most Latvians prefer to get their orders shipped to parcel locker stations. Other popular options include home delivery and pick-up from a post office. When asked about what they would consider to be the optimal delivery time for an order from a domestic online store, the largest share of respondents in the country named a range from three working days to one week. Furthermore, approximately half of Latvians reported putting additional products into their online shopping carts to get free delivery.
