China's share in the global gaming market 2012-2020
In 2020, China occupied around 25 percent of the global gaming market in terms of size. In 2018, the country lost its top spot to United States as the largest gaming market in the world. The market slowdown was the result of an "anti-addiction" measure to limit screen time among children. A nine-month-long freeze in license approvals on new games took place in 2018.
