Lentils in Canada
In 2018, about 1.5 million hectares of lentils were harvested in Canada. This is a decrease from the previous year, during which 1.77 million hectares were harvested. Canada exported about 1.7 million metric tons of lentils in the 2018/2019 crop year, and is expected to export an even higher volume in the next year.
Lentil consumption in the United States
Lentils are a popular source of protein all across the world. They are commonly found in curries and soups, and can be consumed in a variety of different forms. In the United States, lentils were the second best selling type of pulses behind black beans. A survey of U.S. consumers found that some Americans consider legumes, such as lentils, their primary protein source.
