Gaming among seniors in the United States – additional information
Gaming among seniors is gaining momentum and changing the industry paradigm, as older gamers tend to play video games more frequently. As of 2022, some 45 percent of gamers over the age of 50 played video games every day. Seniors’ preferred time of day to engage in gaming was between 6pm and 9 pm, whereas the afternoon timeslot from 2pm to 6 pm, and the night one from 9pm to 12pm, were half as popular.
Among the most cited reasons why gamers over the age of 50 said they played games were to have fun, help stay mentally sharp, relieve boredom or to be challenged. Consequently, over 40 percent of those gamers chose card, tile, puzzle and logic games as their favorites types of video games.
