Russia CO₂ emissions from energy 2022

In 2022, carbon dioxide emissions from energy in Russia amounted to approximately 1.46 billion metric tons of CO2, marking a decrease relative to the previous year. Russia’s territorial carbon dioxide emissions per capita grew by 20 percent between 2000 and 2021.

Greenhouse gas emissions in Russia

Russia accounted for four percent of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions in 2021, ranking behind China, the United States, and India. The energy sector was the largest emitter, followed by industrial production agriculture, and waste management. On the other hand, the land use and forestry sector absorbed approximately 485 million tons of CO2 equivalent in 2021.

Environmental concerns

In a 2021 survey conducted among Russians, almost a half considered their place of residence to have an unfavorable environmental situation. Environmental issues also ranked high on companies' agenda. In 2021, approximately a one in two surveyed specialists from large companies mentioned reducing the carbon footprint and reducing air emissions as key priorities.
