HIV antivral worldwide sales volume by region 2008-2012
This statistic represents worldwide sales volume in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) antivirals from 2008 to 2012 by region. In 2010, the Americas accounted for 660 million standard units in HIV antiviral sales, in Europe 480 million standard units, and in Asia, Australasia, and Africa 1.72 billion standard units. In 2013, about 34 million people around the world were suffering from HIV but due to advances in medication, it is considered a manageable chronic condition. Although, antiretroviral therapy has made living with HIV much more manageable, there are many in the developing world that still have no access to sufficient medical treatment.
