Data for day trips is taken from the GB Day Visitor survey by the same source (Visit Britain/Kantar TNS).

The source adds the following information: "Interviewing is carried out every week of the year using a face-to-face methodology. Annually, some 100,000 respondents are contacted, and any who have returned from an overnight trip within the past four weeks are asked to describe the details of that trip." The data for day visitors is based on 34,319 interviews over during 52 weekly survey waves.
