From 2020 to 2021, an increase of about 26 percent was recorded in the volume of horse mackerel and crustaceans caught in Portugal. Over the same period, a 76 percent increase was recorded in the volume of anchovies caught while the catching volume of sardines increased by 84 percent. In 2022, there was a generalized decrease in the volume of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks species caught in Portugal, with the highest reduction occurring for anchovies, which amounted to 3.5 tons. In 2023, the volume caught increased again, especially in mackerel, which amounted to 32.22 tons.
