Domestic demand for petroleum Japan FY 2013-2022
In the fiscal year 2022, the domestic demand for petroleum in Japan amounted to around 6.61 thousand petajoules. Figures peaked in 2013, reaching around 9.08 thousand petajoules. After the nuclear disaster in Fukushima in 2011, nuclear energy was replaced by fossil fuels, resulting in an increased demand for petroleum for energy production. In more recent years, the petroleum demand has declined since Japan aims to replace fossil fuels with nuclear and renewable energy.
