The majority of premises with a 24-hour alcohol license in England and Wales are hotel bars and supermarkets. As of March 2018, 34 percent of supermarkets and convenience stores held licenses to sell alcohol 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Most were smaller convenience stores. Hotel bars also tended to be licensed mainly for the benefit of their guests. They were much more likely to hold a 24-hour alcohol license than pubs, bars and nightclubs.
