Prison population in Russia 2010-2019, by age group
The adult population in Russian prisons continuously decreased over the time period under consideration, ranging from over 812 thousand persons over 18 years old in 2010 to nearly 513 thousand in 2019. The number of juvenile criminals in custody also followed a negative trend in recent years. In the latest year observed, under 2.1 thousand underage persons were held in the country's prisons.
