This statistic presents the distribution of the leading fibers used in clothing purchased new in the European Union (EU) in 2015, by fiber type. Cotton is the leading fiber for clothing purchased in the EU, used in 43 percent of new textiles. Polyester ranks in second place, used in 16 percent of new clothing purchases.
