Scania: vehicle sales 2019-2023, by segment
In 2019, Scania vehicle sales peaked at 92 thousand trucks sold and 7.8 thousand buses sold. Through 2020, vehicle sales fell sharply, with 67 thousand trucks sold and 5.2 thousand buses sold. 2021 saw a revitalization of the lost sales, with units sold rising to 86 thousand trucks and 4.4 buses sold. In 2022, the number of buses sold increased, whilst the number of trucks put on sale declined, with 5 thousand buses and 80 thousand trucks sold. Finally, in 2023, truck sales increased to 92 thousand units while bus sales increased to five thousand units.
The sharp period of decline in vehicle sales during 2020 was in the midst of both the COVID-19 pandemic and global semiconductor shortages. It was not only Scania that suffered such losses as the number of cars sold worldwide suffered a decline during that same period.
