Latin America: number of undernourished people 2005-2020
In Latin America, nearly 53 million people were estimated to be undernourished in 2020. According to the source, the population whose habitual food intake is insufficient to maintain an active and healthy life is considered undernourished. This represents an increase of 35 percent in comparison to the previous year and is the highest figure recorded since the beginning of the mentioned period. The number of people suffering from undernourishment in Latin America had a 23 percent decrease in 2010 in comparison to 2005, but in more recent years there has been a gradual increase, from 29.9 million people in 2015 to 39.1 million in 2019.
